Ending an awkward date

Written by admin, Sunday, January 11th, 2009 in Q&As

How do I end a bad date?

Well, this is a surprisingly simple question.

The most obvious end to a good date is to simply suffer through the logical end (the end of dinner, the end of the movie, that sort of thing) and leave. This is probably the nicest way to do it- you can very easily suffer throguh the date and avoid embarrassing the person, and in very very sticky situations, avoids making a scene.

There are a few other ways to do it, with increasing levels of difficulty and cruelty.

If you absolutely must end it (i.e. she’s so bad you must get out), you can literally stand up and leave. Only do this if you absolutely must- if your date is being absolutely atrocious to you and everyone around you. I’ve known a few people to do this, most notably when a date got drunk and began talking about enslaving african-americans again and “uniting the south”, much to the anger of nearby patrons. If you drove the date there, leave money for a cab, if you must.

Still, that option is not really adviseable- sometimes it’s generally best to just suck it up and wait the date out. If the date is bad, don’t be guilted into extending it- end it politely and never do it again- and only leave immediately if you absolutely must.
