The Worst Things to Do in College

Every so often, Well Cultured gets an e-mail from a college student desperately needing help to survive college- or a highschooler worried about what to expect. While everyone has a little bit of rough time in college, often the big problems- the life-ending sort of mishaps that leave you with a .5 GPA and no job- can be avoided so long as you do the right stuff. With that being said, here are some of the worst things you can do in college- by some of us who have been there ourselves.Removing Yourself from the World

The polar opposite of partying hard, many people in college choose to seclude themselves from the world, only studying and working- avoiding being social as much as possible. Don't do this. While you're at college to study and learn, a healthy social life is necessary and healthy. Don't hole yourself up in your dorm room for four years- you will undoubtedly regret it.

Honestly, everything in moderation is the best practice. If you follow the advice on number 10… well, I feel sorry for you if you can’t allow yourself some time to drink without having it take over your health and life.
It’s all well and good telling people what not to do, but they will do it regardless. This is because people learn better through experience.
My advise- do ALL of the above, then you’ll find out that things like getting drunk really aren’t all that big a deal and instead concentrate on the more important things in life.
The author sounds like a prude who either didn’t enjoy college, or never went to college at all.
From #10, “when of the legal age” in most countries the legal age for drinking is 18, we’re not all as backwards as the US.
Can we get some sauce on #9?

Indeed, he sounds like a pretty boring guy to me.
No, the Author’s not a prude, he’s someone who *has* very much experienced these things, and is trying to make certain others don’t fall into these common drains on life… I can say this from experience, having *done* several of thse things… Things like embarassing photos or throwing away money, or forgetting there’s the *real* world outside of college are very legitimate problems, and avoiding this results in a person much smarter and able to handle real life after graduation, rather than living in the college party, party, party mindset forever, and being shellshocked by real life of trying to find a job & a place to live and being under incredible debt hitting them square in the face instantly afterward;
