The Real Reasons Why People Ghost

Written by Anna Jones, Friday, November 4th, 2016 in Dating Columns, Sex & Dating

ghostingIt seems like it’s happened a million times – you’re texting a girl you really like, and then, all of a sudden, boom – she ghosts you. No texts. No calls. No Facebook messages. Nothing. And if this keeps happening, and you’re the common denominator, it may seem logical to assume that you’re the one to blame – however, that may not be the case.

According to Plentyoffish, 80% of Millennials have been ghosted. While it may hurt your ego to have it happen to you, at least you can take comfort in knowing that it’s fairly common – but why does it happen so often?

In a recent survey conducted by Glamour magazine, 14 people were asked why they’ve ghosted – here are some of their top reasons:

Neediness

One woman recently got turned off by a guy’s neediness for her time and attention – so she ghosted. She stated that she was tired of explaining her busy schedule to him over and over, and while she hates when people ghost on her, she didn’t seem too hung up on the fact that she did the same thing.

Bad in Bed

A woman stated that she ghosted a dude, because he was terrible in bed, and not open to constructive criticism. She wasn’t sure how to approach it any other way, so she dipped out.

Moving Too Fast

Multiple women reported that men proclaimed that they were “the One,” or that they wanted to marry them – when they had only spent a sexy weekend together. Or, when these guys declared that they wanted to marry the woman shortly after meeting and she subsequently said to slow it down, the guys would then neg the woman, saying that by kissing them, the woman was playing with the man’s emotions.

Guys, here’s a tip – don’t do that. Kisses are not contracts.

Cowardice

Sometimes, you’re just too chicken to tell it like it is – many women claimed to be too scared to tell the guy that they were just not that into them. Hey, it happens – the best thing to do is move on and find someone who likes you just the way you are.

While ghosting isn’t fun, it certainly shows a person’s true colors. Take comfort in knowing that you’re not the only one that this happens to, and that someone better is waiting just around the corner!
