Fraying Shirt Collars

Written by admin, Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 in Q&As

All of my good dress shirts now have horrible destroyed-looking shirt collars. How do I prevent this?

Easy: Don’t throw them in the dryer and be gentle when you wash them.

For some reason, the most vulnerable spot on a shirt is the collar, and normal point collars really take a beating in a dryer. The best way to protect your shirts from the dryer is to simply not use the dryer — allow them to air dry on a drying rack instead, and iron them after they dry. Doing so will not only preserve the collars, but it may also save you a little bit electricity-wise.

Not a bad idea to not dry them, but I don’t dry mine and I have the same problem with fraying and/or pilling. Any other ideas?
