Considering I’m not an expert in fashion… What’s wrong with the first pair of shoes? Both pairs look pretty similar to me.

There’s a lot with those shoes that most people would find issue with, though note that those are still fairly conservative. The main issue is the toe — moc toes designed in that way are made to look “pointy” (something you can’t see easily in this picture), which looks pretty bad and reeks of Ed Hardy-esque guido style. Beyond the toe, perforated leather is questionable (ESPECIALLY like on that shoe, where it’s faked and only on parts of the shoe). Loafers are okay, but a design like this is also really not good for loafers, as it makes them look kinda cheap and eurotrash-y.

It’s hard to explain, but the best thing to do is keep things traditional, at least for the holidays. A simple cape-toe lace-up oxford in a good black leather is always fashionable.

I tend not to care what guys are wearing on there feat. I think i would only notice if they came in without shoes, or were wearing high heals.
